True to form, however, Aftermath introduced more brutalities to the gory fighting game, and offered hints as to when and where its successor, Mortal Kombat 12, could take place. One criticism of the expansion was that it confirmed one of the franchise’s worst entries is indeed canon while simultaneously introducing bugs and broken gameplay that frustrated players. While Mortal Kombat 11 received a generally positive reception from fans, the Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath expansion wasn’t as lauded. Since the franchise’s debut in 1992, several characters have come and gone across the series, some of which have been present in most entries while others have been permanently killed off in the game's lore, though even then, Mortal Kombat has a way of bringing people back to life. A recent roadmap for the game unveiled new seasonal skins, such as the patriotic skins for Baraka, Erron Black, and Kitana in the Summer Heat Pack that released on August 6th, 2020. A skin for Scorpion in Mortal Kombat 11hints at another iconic fighter returning to the franchise.
